Polar
Bear Plunge 2008
Kearney Special
Olympics hosted the Polar Bear Plunge that took place on Saturday, March 8,
2008. It took place at the Fort Kearny Park Recreational Area in
Kearney
,
Nebraska
. Afterwards athletes were able to
attend the Tri-City Storm Hockey game.
What is the Polar Plunge? In a nutshell, participants collect
pledges from friends and family, in exchange for jumping into icy waters in
the middle of winter. All proceeds collected will benefit Special
Olympics Nebraska, to allow all participants to participate for free.
Phelps County Sheriffs
Office has been involved in the Polar Plunge for over 5 years.
This year the Corrections Department took the reins and tried to live up
to past performances. We
raised a total of over $1300 for Special Olympics.
Thanks to all who donated
to the Members of the Plunge Team, we could not do it without your support.
We will see you again next year, hopefully the weather is good.
