Chief
Deputy Major Russ Nedrig Joined
the Phelps County Sheriff's Department in late Summer 2000 bringing with him the
experience and dedication to law enforcement gained during nearly 29 years with
the Nebraska State Patrol. Russ is our chief investigator and is the
acting Sheriff if the Sheriff is out of the jurisdiction.
Captain
Brad Butler has been with PCSO since May of 1998. Brad's career began
in 1995 at the Buffalo Co Corrections Center. In 1997 he joined the
Ravenna Police Department after which he joined the Phelps Co Sheriff's Dept.
Capt.
Butler is a certified
Field Training Officer and PPCT Instructor. Capt. Butler is also certified
to use and train for qualification on the Taser and qualified
to train in Pepper Spray, and is a Basic Thermographer. Since 2005 Capt.
Butler has also been our K-9 handler. We greatly appreciate Brad's
expertise and dedication to duty.
Sergeant Gene Samuelson has been in law enforcement since 1986 as Bertrand Village Marshall and now as Phelps Co Deputy. Gene is a certified Drug Recognition Expert and since Summer of 2001 is the Phelps Co Community Resource Deputy. As such he has set up and administers the Phelps County "Neighborhood Watch" program and still maintain duties as Sergeant and Investigator.
Deputy
Travis Horner Deputy
Horner has been in law enforcement since becoming a Keith County Deputy in
1999. In 2000 Deputy Horner moved to Phelps County and joined the Phelps
County Sheriff's Department. Aside from being a Road Deputy Travis serves
in the Army Reserves where he is a Sgt 1st Class and was deployed in Kuwait
during most of 2005 and 2006. Deputy Horner has a degree from the
University of Nebraska Kearney in Criminal Justice.
Deputy
Bryan Hanson joined the Department
July 2001. Bryan's prior law
enforcement experience includes being a Reserve Deputy in Kearney County from
1998 to 1999. In January of that year Bryan joined the Minden Police
Department. Finding that he enjoyed the larger territory covered by a
Deputy, Bryan accepted a position as Road Deputy with our Department.
Deputy Hanson's
prior Law Enforcement experience, plus 3 1/2 years in the Army and his
University of Ne Kearney Bachelor's degree stand to serve him and the Phelps Co
Sheriff's Office well during his career with us. In July 2002 Deputy
Hanson successfully completed Firearms Instructor Training at NLETC and is a
qualified Firearms instructor. In August '02 Bryan went to Glock (r)
Armorer school and is now qualified to maintain and repair the full line of
Glock (r) service arms.
Deputy
Rancho is a young Dutch
Shepherd, K-9 trained dog. Rancho is a 'dual-purpose' Patrol service
Dog. He and Capt. Butler completed training through the Nebraska State
Patrol and Rancho has been in service since 2005. Rancho has been utilized
by numerous agencies in the Phelps County Area.
