Corrections

The Phelps County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of Phelps County Corrections.  Currently the facility houses 51 inmates and is staffed by 16 corrections officers under the direction of Chief Deputy Russ Nedrig and Jail Administrator Lt. Penny Gregg.  The mission of our facility is to provide a safe environment for inmates and staff while delivering detention services and operations necessary for the protection of society.

Phelps County Corrections moved to it's new facility in the Phelps County Justice Center in late December of 2003.  The Justice Center is 25,000 ft on three levels added on to the Phelps County Courthouse in 2003.  The Jail is on the main floor with the Phelps County Sheriff's Department and the Nebraska State Patrol on the 2nd floor.

Phelps County Corrections holds those adults, male and female, sentenced to serve less than one year of confinement and also those arrested and awaiting trial or sentencing.  The detention center also holds prisoners for some area counties and cities, the Holdrege Police Department, the Nebraska State Patrol, US Marshals and Immigration & Customs Enforcement.
